TGA Henley Row

If you are no longer an active participant at Henley Royal Regatta and want to find out what the river can offer you, try the forty-seven miles from Oxford to Henley.

Over three days you encounter the hospitality of the clubs you stop at who go out of their way to make you welcome, you get through times when it doesn't go so well and then forget all about it over dinner and there are special moments such as Doug's leap of faith back into the boat having operated a now much higher self-service lock. Your day is punctuated by the cheerfully pithy assessments of you and other river users by the lock-keepers, who see all life passing before them. Above all you experience the variety, peace and beauty of the river itself with a nine-mile run-in on a fine summer's day to a paddle over the regatta course with a picnic at the trailer to round it off.

At the end of the trip, whatever the river has done for you it has probably made you want to come back again.

Our thanks go to the host clubs, boat-loaders, cake and picnic providers, dinner organisers, lady companion drivers and Tom G, who all together made it possible and enjoyable and to Kristian for sitting in the same position and listening patiently to sometimes (!) contradictory advice from all and sundry for three days.
