Sculling Courses

Tideway Scullers School (TSS) runs five-day sculling courses at Easter and during the summer. Participants come from all age ranges, and some even come from overseas. Many are sweep rowers looking to try sculling; many are members from other clubs desperate for good coaching; many are juniors looking to get ahead. For a snapshot of what courses can be like, have a look at our Facebook page.

UPDATE : 18.06.2019 We have a few spaces remaining for JUNIORS on our 'No Beginners' course, commencing 29th July, this course is now FULLY BOOKED FOR ADULTS.   Click here to make a booking

10.06.2019 The General course commencing 22nd July is now FULLY BOOKED.  There is an option via the online booking form to register on the waitlist for this course, no payment should be made until we contact you to let you know a place has become available.

We currently have spaces for both adults and juniors on all the other courses.

HOT NEWS. We are offering a couple of SCHOLARSHIP PLACES on this summer's sculling courses at Tideway Scullers School.   Final date for application Friday 14th June.

The places are for adult athletes (NB not juniors) who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford the normal fee of £389. We will make an administrative charge of £50. This offer is intended for relatively experienced rowers or scullers who want to take their sculling to the next level. If you are interested, please send an email to course director, Andrew Eames, at stating your case.

There are three types of course:

- General, which is suitable for all age groups and for all levels of ability, from experienced athletes to those who have never sculled before. There will be 30-35 attendees per course (approximately half junior and half adult), divided into groups according to ability. So there will be faster groups, and not so fast, on each course.

Junior Rowers

Juniors are welcome from age 14.

Juniors from age 12 may be eligible to attend our courses subject to minimum height and weight requirements - If booking on behalf of 12 or 13 year olds, please email giving details of their height and weight and we will respond with our recommendations.

- No beginners, which is suitable for both adults and juniors who have some experience in single sculls. The course size is limited to a maximum of 22.

- Junior advanced, which caters for juniors (14-18) who have had experience of racing in a single scull. The course size is limited to a maximum of 22.

All the courses are coached by a team of TSS coaches, some of whom have represented Great Britain. The emphasis is almost entirely on single sculling, because we believe that there’s no substitute for getting in your own boat and learning how to make it move.

For our cancellation policies and a reminder that sculling is a potentially risky sport, with capsizes and collisions, see our Terms & Conditions.
