Scope and aims
The Veteran Women’s Squad is a recently formed, and rapidly expanding, group that seeks to cater for veteran women (31+) intending to compete at local, national and international veteran events.
The aim of the group is to allow each member to achieve the most they can within the sport, but to also be aware of the many other demands upon our time. The group is ideal for those who want to train and race seriously, but who don’t wish to train with the Women’s Squad.
Racing
The Veteran Women compete at head races and regattas all year round: in the 2006-07 season the squad raced at various head races, including the Veteran Fours Head and the Scullers Head, and then at numerous regattas, both local and national, culminating in the World Masters Regatta in Zagreb.
The focus in the regatta season is on Henley Veteran Regatta and the National Veteran Championships, and then the FISA World Masters Regatta at the end of the summer.
Training
The squad aims to meet at 9am on Sunday mornings, and train at other times by arrangement. A training programme is available.
Most of the water sessions are in sculling boats and all members of the squad are competent single scullers. Many own their own singles, but club equipment is available.
